Two striking new sculptures have been unveiled at Parkdale Station, blending the area’s history with its future growth. The artwork, titled Windsong, was created by Melbourne artist Anne Ross and adds a fresh touch of artistic charm to the newly redeveloped station precinct.

Sculptures Reflect Parkdale’s Past and Future

Located at the heart of Parkdale, opposite the local traders on Como Parade West, the Windsong sculptures stand as a tribute to the area’s rich history and its exciting future. The two bronze figures, standing at 1.5m and 1.8m tall, are designed to capture both past and present elements of Parkdale, incorporating local architecture, history, and geography.

Artist Anne Ross explains that the figures “are facing the future straight on, while acknowledging the past.” These sculptures serve as a bridge between the past and the bright future of the community, inviting all ages to connect with the story they tell. As they stand in the heart of the community, they provide a visual connection to the changing face of Parkdale.

Parkdale Station: A Gateway to the Future

The new artwork is part of a larger transformation of the Parkdale area, with the station precinct now level-crossing free. The upgraded Parkdale Station is fully open to passengers, making it easier for locals and visitors to travel. With 49 rail passenger car parks, as well as pick-up and drop-off zones, the station is more accessible than ever.

In addition to the parking facilities, the area also boasts secure bicycle storage and accessible parking spaces, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the upgraded station. These changes mark the beginning of a broader transformation in the region, which will continue to develop in the coming years.

New Community Amenities to Enjoy

Alongside the artistic installation, the Parkdale area is introducing a range of new community facilities. For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, a half basketball court near the Warrigal Road intersection is already available for use. Additionally, a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists is set to open soon, encouraging healthy, active commuting options.

As part of the new developments, an open-air gym and a nature-based playground will provide plenty of opportunities for fitness and play. Landscaping and planting work will be completed in 2025, further enhancing the beauty and functionality of the area.

Looking Ahead: Transforming the Community

The transformation of Parkdale Station and its surrounding area is part of the broader efforts to make the Frankston Line level-crossing free by 2029. This ambitious project aims to improve how locals live, work, and travel, making the area more connected and accessible for everyone.

With the artwork, new station facilities, and upcoming community amenities, Parkdale is evolving into a vibrant and future-forward area. The new sculptures and facilities not only provide visual appeal but also enhance the daily lives of those who live and work in the community.
